At least 38 families have refused to accept the government's Rs 10 lakh compensation for those dead in the Manipur ethnic violence, according to the Supreme Court-appointed panel. The compensation has been made as a direct benefit transfer in 73 cases of 169 identified cases. The Supreme Court-appointed panel is learnt to have sought directions from the court to “prohibit” civil society organisations from “interfering with and/or obstructing” with the process. The state government is learnt to have told the committee that efforts are underway to identify the six remaining bodies.
