UK government's new Digital Markets Bill to ban fake reviews

The UK government's new Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Bill aims to help consumers and increase competition between big tech firms. The bill is being introduced on Tuesday and bans people receiving money or free goods for writing glowing reviews. Firms will also have to remind people when free subscription trials end. The bill also seeks to end the tech giants' current market dominance. The newly formed Digital Markets Unit will be given certain powers to open up a specific market depending on the situation.

Deepfake Detection Is One Corner of AI Tech That Isn't Booming

It's getting easier to manipulate images but there's little financial incentive for companies to invest in tools to detect fakes. AI technology can be used to detect deepfakes with 96% accuracy, but the global market for deepfake detection is only valued at $3.86 billion. Big tech companies and startups have poured billions into generative AI, but detection tools are still in development. There's little legal or financial incentive to invest in deepfake detection, leaving consumers in the dark.
